Indiana Ultimate Foundation is a non-profit organization created for the purpose of representing and driving the growth of Indiana's Ultimate community at each level of play. At the core of this organization is a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, who work alongside three Trustees to discuss the needs of our Ultimate community and develop ways to meet them. It is the purpose of the board to work collaboratively with committee chairs and the Ultimate community to overcome the challenges of each demographic, foster growth, and fulfill IUF's Mission and Vision Statement.
President: John Rempel
I originate from all over the Midwest including Kansas, Iowa, and Illinois but I have spent the vast majority of my adult life in Indiana. I began playing Ultimate with the Ball State Wizardz in 1981, and have captained and played club ultimate in Indianapolis for many years.
Currently I participate in recreational leagues and plan to continue competing in the Masters and Grand Masters divisions of USA Ultimate. I am also involved in coaching youth programs, including INferno, which is our states "All-Star" club team that competes in the U-19 Open division of USA Ultimate. I am extremely excited about the opportunity for the IUF to create a "same-page" effort for the growth and development of all Ultimate in Indiana. My vision is that we will foster a culture that allows the Ultimate community to share the fabulous virtues (character, relationship building, sportsmanship, and fitness) of the greatest sport on the planet earth with others that are unfamiliar with our sport; and to enhance and enrich the opportunities to participate for those that already love Ultimate! This will certainly create an environment where competitive club ultimate can thrive at the national level.
Vice President: Jared Payne
I grew up in Bloomington, IN first learning about ultimate frisbee as a freshman at Indiana University. After my first practices and tournament with the Hoosiermama?'s I was hooked on ultimate. I played five years at IU in the college division, as well as 11 seasons in the club division. I have competed with teams in Indiana, Illinois, & Ohio playing at both college & club nationals. I have also participated in all three of the first three seasons of the American Ultimate Disc League.
I am currently involved with the Open team Brickyard and the Indianapolis Alleycats. While I am still enjoying playing I am also very passionate about helping to grow the sport of ultimate. I like to work with others who share the same passion to organize and execute efforts to improve playing opportunities & awareness. I also enjoy helping individuals improve at the game as a coach at different levels.
I look forward to working with the IUF for a more concentrated effort in improving Indiana Ultimate as a whole.
Treasurer: Blake Vanderbush
I am originally from the west side of Indianapolis and have lived in Indiana my entire life. I started playing pick up Ultimate during high school but didn't play competitively until attending Ball State University.
Since college, I have participated in a number of city recreational leagues, captained USAU club teams, and played for the Indianapolis AlleyCats of the AUDL.
My hope for the IUF is that we will be able to expand the number of opportunities to play Ultimate in Indiana while also improving the level of competition. I also hope we improve the competitiveness of the top level teams in order to compete at a national level.
Secretary: Cathy Halloran
Cathy grew up on the south side of Indianapolis and has been raising a family for 19 years. She was first introduced to ultimate when her eighth grade son started playing in 2010. She loved watching games and tournaments and since then, has helped by playing an important role in carrying out administrative tasks and developing procedures to help Center Grove High School's ultimate program grow to be the largest and most successful high school program in the state. She has seen the positive impact that ultimate has had on many kids and their families, and she is looking forward to playing a small part in helping the Indiana ultimate Foundation to provide more exciting local ultimate opportunities, which in turn, will help to push ultimate to the next level. She can hardly wait to see what the future brings to this amazing sport!
Trustee: Matthew Broadwell
I began playing ultimate in the Boy Scouts and grew into playing pick up in high school. Following that I played college and club with the Ball State Wizards from 1999 to 2003 before moving on to play in Indianapolis. During my time in Indianapolis I have been lucky enough to help with Indianapolis leagues, pickup groups, and club teams and to have served as an Indianapolis AlleyCats assistant coach for two seasons.
Now a part of IUF, I am excited to continue helping with the development of Indiana ultimate and develop all the amazing talent we have across the state.
Trustee: Jenna McGregor
originally from St. Louis and went to Missouri University of Science
and Technology for my B.S. in Environmental Engineering. While in
college I became close friends with many of the ultimate players, but
our school only had a men's team at the time.
I graduated and moved to
Indianapolis in 2010, and joined winter league to meet people. Little
did I know how many great friends I would make or how much the sport
and community would take over my life. We founded the mixed team Liquid
Hustle in the summer of 2010 and it has been amazing to watch it grow
from 15 friends to a 60+ person organization with an A and B team. I
have also organized several women's training clinics, and volunteered at
a variety of youth clinics.
My hope with IUF is to continue the
organized growth of each Indiana team, support the training and passion
individual player, and make international connections using ultimate as
a common subculture.
Trustee: Eric Leonard
I am from Chicago, but spent my formative years in Indiana with a brief stint in Houston, and currently resides in Indianapolis. I have been playing Ultimate since my freshman year at Purdue University in 2002 and haven't stopped playing since. I have competed in the College, Club, Mixed, and Beach Divisions with a Nationals appearance in the Open Division with Chicago Machine in 2006. I am the current captain of Indy Club, the local Indianapolis Open team.
Even though I have been playing Club in some form since 2006, my real enjoyment comes from coaching. I have coached both Men's and Women's College Teams since 2009 and take sincere pleasure in building long-term, sustainable Ultimate programs. I am also the current assistant coach of the AUDL's Indianapolis AlleyCats.
My intent is to bring a long term, nationally competitive team to Indiana, and believe the IUF is an integral part of achieving that goal.
